4) Drive slower
The faster your vehicle goes, the more gasoline it uses. Consequently, the slower you drive, the more gas you save. Everyone is likely to want to get to their destination sooner rather than later, but it is questionable how much time you will actually save by driving faster. The Department of Motor Vehicles suggest that, in town, driving faster will shave off only 4-5 minutes of your travelling time. Of course, if you drive 15 – 20 miles faster on the freeway, you will probably arrive at your journey’s end sooner. But, you will not only use far more gasoline, you’ll also probably be breaking the designated speed limits. Experts estimate that fast driving, either in town or on highways, can increase your fuel consumption by as much as 33%.
