Whether you chose a profession because it was a safe bet and offered financial security, or your parents chose your path, if you don’t spring out of bed inspired about a new day, it may be time for a change. You may have become a doctor or a lawyer or a dentist, all respectable careers, but do you feel like you’re trapped in a cage? Or, worse yet, does your life feel like the movie “Groundhog Day,” where you wake up and go through the same dull routine repeatedly? If you answered yes, don’t despair. No matter what your age or station in life, there are always alternatives and ways to make needed or wanted changes. If you’re stuck in the doldrums, here are 9 ways you can change a career you hate.
1) Get Creative
If you know for certain you hate your career, but aren’t sure what to do next, start thinking outside the proverbial box. Make a list of people you know who are happy in what they do for a living. It doesn’t even need to be someone you know very well. Just people who you’ve observed who are clearly happy doing what they do. Add to that what you admire about their chosen profession and rate it on your level of interest or any aspect that appeals to you. Making lists and assessing what appeals to you will give you confidence to formulate a plan and make your move. Granted, it may not be instantaneous, but with careful thought and planning, it is conceivable that, before you know it, you’ll be on your way in a new career that you absolutely love.
