By prioritizing your spending, you will be able to paint a clearer picture of where you can save or cut back. Some bills are a given every month, utilities, rent or mortgage, phone, etc. These have to be paid without fail, so that leaves fluctuating expenses like food, gas, and entertainment to name a few. Take some time to evaluate these expenditures and see where you can save, prioritize them between wants and needs. If you are having trouble distinguishing the two then ask yourself “Is this something I really need or something I really want?” For example, do you need a new cell phone, or do you just want a new one? Doing this for most purchases outside of fixed expenses can really help you prioritize your spending.
