9) Pay with Cash
If you’re having a hard time controlling your spending, try using cash for daily expenses rather than continuing to swipe your debit card. It’s different when you stick to using cash, because even if you check your account daily, it’s easy to justify overspending. “Well, if I pay my electric bill a week late, I can buy this now…” Whereas if the cash in your wallet is all you have to spend, more than likely you’ll hold off on impulse spending and stick to a budget. All it takes is a pen and paper to make a budget. It takes strong self-discipline and nerves of steel to stick to it. Try an experiment, use cash for daily expenses for one month, then compare it to your debit card purchases from the previous month. Using cash keeps you more conscious of your spending.
