13) Dean Martin

Dean Martin started out his career with Jerry Lewis, as a straight man to Lewis’ zany, chaotic characters. Once going solo, Martin became a highly successful film star, but it wasn’t until his membership in the Rat Pack that his fame skyrocketed. Part of his appeal was his drunken, affable persona, which he later developed to great success on his television series, The Dean Martin Show. His show regularly featured famous guests, kooky sketches, musical numbers, and Martin in a semi-drunken state. With his trademark cigarette in one hand, and glass of booze in the other, Martin had a relaxed, easy manner, and audiences loved him. It was never clear whether he actually drank as much as it seemed, but he was quoted as saying, “You’re not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on”.
