8) Get Tough with Salespeople
Door-to-door salespeople should raise your suspicions. While there are some honest people out there selling on the street, most are not. They know how to win people over with a friendly demeanor and honest attitude. But they also use high-pressure sales tactics to get you to buy unwanted items. First, don’t let the person in the house. This makes it harder to get them out when you want them to leave. Second, don’t feel pressured into buying something on the spot – even if it’s something you want. Tell them you’ll think about it and review the materials and information presented. Don’t give a salesperson cash up front based on the promise that you’ll get your product later. You’ll likely never see your money again or the item you “bought.” If you do buy something, make sure the contract is dated, signed, and outlines the total cost, warranties, and return policy.
