They were introduced in 1960 by The Mars Corporation in the UK where Starburst were originally known as Opal Fruits. They are a soft toffee like candy manufactured by The Wrigley Company, a subsidiary of Mars, Incorporated. Starburst made it to the States in 1967 and has had many different varieties over the years which include some truly unique flavors.
