SweeTarts are a sweet and sour candy invented by Jeff Sousa in 1962. The candy was created in response to parents’ requests for a less-messy candy using the same basic recipe as the already popular Pixy Stix and Lik-M-Aid candies. In 1963, SweeTarts were introduced with the same flavors as the popular Pixy Stix: cherry, grape, lemon, lime, and orange. They also produce SweeTarts gum as well as several variations of SweeTarts for different holidays. Such as hearts for Valentine’s Day, skulls for Halloween and giant Chewy SweeTarts, which are a larger, chewier variant of SweeTarts that come four to a package and are the size of a silver dollar and ¼ inch thick. They’ve been a favorite for generations.
