9) Not Using the Parking Brake
It is a simple fact that if you drive a car, you need to park it. So, with how often vehicles are parked, the use of the parking brake can make a big difference. When you put a car in park but don’t use the parking brake, your car’s weight is put on the parking pawl, which is a metal piece of the transmission system. If you do this regularly, the pawl will get worn down, and may even break. This can cause a dangerous situation because it will inhibit your ability to park stably. Therefore, it is a much better idea to employ the parking brake whenever you park. This will distribute your car’s weight better. Considering how easy this is to do, it should be a no-brainer.
