10) Leaning on the Gear Shifter
Resting on the shifter is especially a concern if you have a manual transmission. While driving, you may be tempted to leave your hand there for when you need to shift gears. However, this can put stress on some systems. Particularly, you will put undue pressure on transmission bushings and synchronizers. As with any unnecessary pressure, this can wear down the system, which is transmission in this case. This may lead to you needing to bring your car to the shop for repairs more quickly than otherwise necessary. Therefore, it is in your best interest to keep both hands on the steering wheel instead. This will not only reduce stress on the car, but will also give you better control over the vehicle. Since this is not a difficult fix, you should employ it as soon as possible to preserve your transmission.
