1) Enlisted Combat Soldier
While military officers can earn quite a bit of money, lower-ranking enlisted soldiers make only about $25,000 a year. With special bonuses for working in a war zone they earn about a total of $28,000. That’s not a lot of compensation, especially when you consider the risks and stresses of wartime deployment. Many soldiers die or experience severe injuries that will plague them the rest of their lives. Just as bad can be the horrors they witness or have to participate in to carry out their duties and survive. While there they get little sleep, little decent food, and are separated from their families and loved ones. Many of these soldiers return home with conditions of chronic stress, or even Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), that are so great the stress threatens their mental health for life.
